This element is closely related to architecture. It's worth pointing out, that it most often has the form of a horizontal one, profiled slat. Cornice, because that's what he's talking about, it's a strip, which protrudes in front of the face of the wall. Its task is to protect the facade of the building from harmful influences, what even dripping rainwater can have on it. This is worth mentioning, that in addition to these practical functions, the cornice is also an ornament. It is therefore a universal element, multifunctional, starting from the practical - protective aspect, at the decorative ending. This is worth mentioning, that the cornice may consist of several slats, which are called profile. They are provided with additional decorations, which is placed over, be under those slats. In the past, the cornice was called a geison. It functioned in the architecture of ancient Rome and Greece. It was there that it was known under the aforementioned name. It was treated as one of the elements related to the entablature. In addition, it played a protective role. Namely, it protected the friezes, and, moreover, he crowned the entire entablature.
