Epoxy resins and varnishes

What hardeners are most suitable for epoxy varnishes?
Polyamines are primarily used as hardeners for epoxy resin varnishes, polyamides and polyisocyanates. However, only such a hardener may be used, which the varnish producer requires. This is the only way to guarantee its optimal properties.

Various hardeners are used for epoxy varnishes, giving the epoxy coating different properties. How these properties change when using different hardeners?
If polyamines are used as hardeners for epoxy varnishes, it is the coatings made in this way that are particularly resistant to solvents and chemicals. If polyamides are used as hardeners, it is the coatings made in this way that are particularly flexible and waterproof. On the other hand, using polyisocyanates produces coatings that are particularly resistant to acids and solvents, compared to the above-mentioned. As a rule, however, only the hardeners prescribed by the paint manufacturer should be used.

What main solvents are included in special thinners for epoxy varnishes?
Special thinners for epoxy varnishes mainly contain ketones, aromatic compounds, ethers and alcohols.

Please describe the characteristic properties of coatings produced with epoxy varnishes and paints
Coatings made with epoxy varnishes and paints are very resistant to chemicals, alkali resistance is particularly pronounced. Moreover, these coatings are very resistant to mechanical stress. They have excellent adhesion to all strong surfaces. These coatings tend to chalk when exposed to weathering, but otherwise they are very resistant to weather conditions. If epoxy resins have been combined with tar during production, this achieves even greater water resistance, which is good anyway. Although, the resistance to chemicals is somewhat reduced due to the tar content.

Please list the fields of application of epoxy varnishes and paints
Epoxy varnishes and paints are used to make highly stressed coatings, inside and outside the building, on all firm substrates. Typical applications are coatings on concrete floors and anti-corrosive primers on steel blasted to pure metal..
Water-borne epoxy paints are used for heavily loaded concrete floors.
Painting products made of epoxy resins have proven themselves very well in car painting.

How epoxy varnishes and paints cure?
Epoxy varnishes and paints cure by oxidation. After the solvent is evaporated, oxygen is chemically added.

What are the properties of coatings made using epoxy esters as a binder??
Coatings made of epoxy varnishes and paints show similar properties, like coatings made of alkyd resins, hence good adhesion to most inert substrates and saponification by alkalis. With increased chemical resistance, however, these coatings tend to chalk when exposed to weathering.
